Initially coached by Bill Frieder and later by Steve Fisher for the tournament games, the team overcame many challenges to emerge victorious when it mattered most. Glen Rice, Rumeal Robinson, and Sean Higgins among others were key members who contributed to the success of the Michigan Wolverines team. They clinched the victory after defeating the Seton Hall team 80-79 after a hard fought game into the overtime period thanks to Rumeal Robinson's successful free throws.
In modern times, the Michigan Wolverines Men's Basketball team has continued to hold its own in NCAA basketball, playing in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament every year, as well as supplying excellent prospects for the future. As a matter of fact, over the past few decades, the University of Michigan men's basketball team has seen great success and has been very competitive. Focusing on an offensive system, guards, and recruiting, the Michigan Wolverines have become a respected team within their conference, the Big Ten.
